Typographical Sonnet Exploration

I want to up my typography game and start really exploring typography in a cool way. Since I really love sonnets and sonnet sequences, I thought I could just have fun using sonnets as content and just play with the text on the page.

Sonnets are a super hard, but kind of fun, typographical challenge since it has a very rigid structure in its rhymes and set up. You have to make choices like: do you follow the rhyme scheme; what concepts do you highlight and group; how experimental do you go without losing the feel of the piece. With all this, I think it will be a challenge that I know I will fail at a lot, but I am hoping that it will push me a little bit to get better.

For each sonnet, I will be doing the following:

  1. Give it some parameters that will be used to add something to explore
  2. Sketch out about ten different versions
  3. Pick a few to discuss

Extra Credit challenges:

  • Add some kind of animation to the text mock up
  • Make the design responsive in some way (Who knows how?)
  • If it is an interesting design, try coding it without SVG and see how easiy it will be
